Gustavus Wind Orchestra: A Way of Life
COMS-265 Media Representation, Project 2

For a project on depicting a “Way of Life,” I made a short documentary following the Gustavus Wind Orchestra on our 2026 Chicago Tour. The 7-minute film follows four ensemble members through a three-act structure, capturing the rehearsals, performances, long bus rides, and friendships that make up life in the ensemble. It’s a look at what it means to be part of this group, both on stage and off.

Nobel Conference Video Series
COMS-265 Media Representation, Project 3

For this project, our class split into three groups to create videos for the Gustavus Nobel Conference on the Mississippi River. My group produced “River in Our Backyard,” a collection of stories about how we’re connected to the river, featuring a local farmer, the St. Peter Wastewater Treatment Facility, a local fisherman, an Indigenous story, and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

After the semester, Professor Martin Lang hired me to finish and polish all three projects for the conference. Along with “River in Our Backyard,” that included a social media series of four short videos featuring Gustavus geology professor Laura Triplett, and “From Delta to Headwaters,” a documentary with jazz professor Dr. Dave Stamps tracing the history of jazz on the Mississippi back to Fate Marable and Louis Armstrong in the 1920s.
